The Book of Joy by The Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu with Douglas Abrams

Updated: Dec 9, 2018

Actually inspired by Dr. James Doty, this book is the summary of a weeklong meeting between these two spiritual heavyweights. It contains beautiful teachings and perspectives from the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, and layered on top of that, Douglas Abrams has added the actual science that backs up the concepts they discuss. Especially interesting to me are Dr. Richard Davidson's findings of four independent brain circuits that influence our lasting well-being:

1: Our ability to maintain positive states;

2: Our ability to recover from negative states;

3: Our ability to focus and avoid mind wandering; and

4: Our ability to be generous!
